Description of Nourishing Base Oils Used in Shampoo Bars

Our non liquid
Solid Shampoo Bars are
Great for Traveling

SHAMPOO BARS are one of our favorite discoveries!
The wholesome goodness of our handcrafted soap is now available for your hair.

Shampoo bars are an all natural conditioning shampoo in a solid bar form.  Our all natural shampoo bars are made in small batches using recipes meticulously developed to naturally clean and condition your scalp and hair.  Super rich with loads of fluffy lather, these solid shampoo bars contain coconut cleansers and moisturizing oils that leave hair soft, shiny, clean, and most of all healthy.

Our scented shampoo bars are made with natural botanical essential oils.
The essential oil blends we use are formulated for their therapeutic value as well as for their lovely fragrance.

Our all natural shampoo bars contain no artificial fragrance, color, preservatives, detergents, alcohol, urea, formaldehyde, sodium laurel sulfate, DEA, propylene glycol - or any of the other synthetic hair care additives.

Each of our shampoo bar selections contains a different blend
of natural plant oils, essential oils, and herb infused oils.
No two recipes are the same.

Every  person's hair and scalp conditions are unique. Your hair may be thick or thin, fine, medium or coarse, straight or curly, oily or dry.   We  use only natural ingredients in our shampoo bars and the chemicals in commercial shampoos make for quite a different shampoo experience.  Because our all natural solid shampoo bar soaps do not strip hair in the same way as detergent based shampoos, you may notice your hair feeling different after washing than you may be accustomed.  This is perfectly normal, you'll love how your hair feels after it dries.

Our best suggestion is to try some different samples.  Use them one at a time so that you can really judge how they make your hair and scalp feel.  We often tell customers to take notes on what they like or don't like about each soap or shampoo bar.

Please do not use a shampoo bar once or twice and decide you don't like it. You may have a build-up of chemical residue on your  hair from your commercial shampoos and conditioners, in which case it may take a week or more of using only our natural shampoo bar and a vinegar rinse to really clean your hair.  I use our shampoo bars on my long hair.  My hair is much softer than when I was using liquid shampoo and I never need separate conditioner anymore.  Just rub the bar directly on your hair or rub the bar between your hands and apply the lather to your hair.  Work the luxurious lather through and rinse as usual.  Although some of our customers still use conditioner, no conditioner is needed.

If you have hard water, be sure to read our information on How Your Water Affects Hair and  Natural Vinegar Rinses!  The minerals in hard water may interfere with the ability to rinse soap from your hair.

Order sample sizes to determine which shampoo is right for you!
Sample bars are approximately 1.5 ounces  (see info below)
(Freshly cut shampoo samples may be very soft, especially in humid weather.)

Thank you so much.  I ordered shampoo bars from you about a month ago and they are the greatest.  My hair before was always flat and lank, now it has tons of body and fullness.  It's like having someone else's hair!!  I look forward to trying your body and face soaps, as my skin is so dry and needs some TLC.   Thanks again for a wonderful product and website.

How big are our shampoo bars?

A note from a customer with VERY dry hair:

I have been using your shampoo bars for a few months and just love them.  My hair is somewhat oily at the top and very dry and brittle toward the bottom.  My hair has felt smoother and softer since switching to your shampoo bars.  A few weeks ago I gave a shampoo bar to my sister only to realize that it was my last bar.  Panic set in!  I decided while waiting for my new order I would try your regular soap on my hair--I LOVE it.  I used the Cucumber Lime and my hair no longer felt brittle and crunchy.  Now when I shower I wash my hair twice.  I wash my whole head with a shampoo bar and then wash only the hair with your soap.  What a difference.  Please feel free to share this with your customers.

Chloe was ordering a bar of the honey butter soap to use as a hair conditioner.  I asked her to share her technique.

I use it [honey butter soap] as my conditioner now!  It's been working great!  I use the nettle shampoo bar on my scalp and then I use the honey butter soap on just the length of my hair, it works really good and makes the length of my hair really soft and also gives it a little bit of body too.

I was actually looking for a cheaper alternative and a longer lasting alternative to the $10 bottle of conditioner that I used to buy that would not last for very long.  Here I can spend $6 and the soap will last for quite a while!
Chloe

Dear Ida,

I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing the other lady's experience using your Honey Butter soap as conditioner!!!  I finally tried it this order & this really does work for me!! I have tried quite a few almost all-natural conditioners but they all left my hair feeling icky/greasy; your Honey Butter soap bar really does the trick :-) My hair hasn't been totally tangle free in ages (since I removed all chemical products from our home a few years ago) and now it is!!! No more tangles :-) and silky soft with body also!

Read what else our customers have to say!

We begin each of our shampoo bar recipes with a special blend of hair and scalp nourishing oils combined to create an exceptional all natural  hair care product.  We make each shampoo bar unique by adding exotic butters and oils, essential oils, and oils infused with botanicals that promote a clean, nourished, and hydrated scalp which insures the proper environment for healthy hair to grow.

The properties of the our ingredients, specific to hair care, can be found
on the INGREDIENTS page of our website.  Some descriptions are provided below.
Each shampoo bar has a description of additional ingredients.

Castor oil is a natural emollient to hair.  It will penetrate and make hair soft, moisturize, and restore the natural sheen to your hair.  Castor oil  softens the hair and is commonly used in hair conditioners for the treatment of brittle, damaged hair or hair loss.  It is believed to help prevent split ends and breakage.  Castor Oil was among the vegetable oils used by the Egyptians in an attempt to encourage hair growth.  The addition of castor oil creates a luxurious creamy lather.

(Unrefined Virgin) Hemp Seed oil provides the proper balance of essential nutrients needed for strong healthy hair.  Hempseed is really a tiny nut, rather than a seed, that contains about 20 to 35 percent protein.  Hemp seed oil is the plant kingdom’s richest source of EFAs, essential fatty acids, and other nutrients responsible for strong, healthy keratin formation. Keratin is the principal protein of hair. The moisturizing emollients of hemp seed oil help revitalize the hair shaft, and increase volume, elasticity, softness, and shine.  It imparts gloss and manageability to hair, bringing relief from hair damaged by coloring, chemical perms, blow-dryer heat, or sunlight. This unrefined hempseed oil has a rich, dark green color.

Jojoba oil is a great hair conditioner and moisturizer because its molecular structure is very similar to the natural oil, called sebum, that is produced by the sebaceous glands in the scalp. The cleaning properties of jojoba oil have been well documented.   Jojoba oil is great for the hair root follicles allowing oxygen in and thereby encouraging new growth. Jojoba is believed to promote hair growth, prevent hair loss, and improve the overall health of the scalp and hair.  Jojoba creates the ideal pH condition on the scalp, and restores elasticity and flexibility to the hair shaft.  Native Americans in the Southwest used jojoba oil for centuries to moisturize their skin and hair.

Olive oil nourishes, conditions, and improves the strength and elasticity of your hair.   Rich in essential fatty acids, it infuses moisture directly into the scalp and hair shaft to improved moisture balance and add a longer lasting shine.

Rice Bran Oil,  rich in anti-oxidants, has long been used in Japan to protect and moisturize the skin and hair.  Rice bran oil contains natural antioxidants like tocophyerol (Vitamin E).   It adds sheen and manageability while moisturizing and conditioning the hair without weighing it down.  Rice bran oil imparts shine and texture and leaves hair easy to style.

Sunflower, an easily absorbed oil, contains vitamins A, C, and E.  and  very high in essential fatty acids.  Nutrient-rich sunflower oil moisturizes, nourishes and protects for silky, strong, healthy hair.  It is known to be one of the most moisturizing vegetable oils.  Sunflower oil is said to be a hair strengthener and prevent aging of the hair follicle, which may delay graying.

Wheat Germ oil, rich in B Vitamins & Vitamin E is nourishing for hair and skin.  This rich, moisturizing oil contains powerful anti-oxidants to improve the scalp’s ability to utilize oxygen, leaving the scalp healthy.  Hair needs oxygen to grow and excessive hair thinning may be due to poor circulation (lack of oxygen) to the affected area.  Poor circulation, lack of stimulation, adverse scalp conditions and clogged follicles can all result in less oxygen to the hair follicle.  Scientists have found that people with stunted hair growth have up to 38% less oxygen at the hair's root.  Wheat germ oil also softens hair.

Beauty Secret Cocoa Butter Dry Ends Cream
Although nothing mends split ends once they form, use our Three Butter or any of our lotion bars to temporarily seal split ends and discourage hair from splitting further.   To use, rub a small amount of the lotion bar between the fingertips and apply sparingly to dry ends between shampoos.

Beauty Secret Hair Conditioner
Mash one peeled and pitted avocado.  Slowly add coconut milk until the mixture is smooth and has the consistency of a thick hair conditioner. The amount of coconut milk used will depend on the ripeness of your avocado.  Work the mixture through hair--be sure to get the ends. Wait 15 minutes and then rinse and wash with a natural shampoo.

Beauty Secret Honey Hair Shine
Stir 1 teaspoon warmed honey into 4 cups warm water.   After shampooing, pour mixture through hair.  Do not rinse out.  Dry as normal.  Blondes may wish to add a squeeze of lemon juice.

Shampoo bars are a great complete body bar!

Your fluffy lathering shampoo bars can double as body soap and shaving soap, which makes them great for camping, traveling, business trips, and the gym.  No need to pack little bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner. One shampoo bar can do it all.  Just tuck the shampoo bar into a plastic zip bag or travel soap dish--no extra bottles to carry, leak, break, or pollute our environment!

A quality bar handmade soap or shampoo will often "sweat" in humid weather due to the high content of natural humectants.
